The Valatie Free Library serves the village of Valatie, the hamlet of Niverville and surrounding rural Kinderhook in Columbia County along the scenic Hudson River Valley of New York State. Beginning in September 2017, Board meetings will be held on the third Monday of every month at 7:00 pm in the Library. The public is welcome to attend.

The public is welcome to attend meetings of the Board of Trustees. The board normally meets on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00 pm. Holidays, inclement weather or other special circumstances may entail alternative or additional meetings. When in doubt, check the Events Calendar or call the library at 758-9321 to confirm. DURING THE COVID EMERGENCY, MEETINGS HAVE BEEN HELD ON GOTOMEETING AND MAY CONTINUE TO DO SO. EMAIL THE LIBRARY TO RECEIVE THE CODE FOR THE CURRENT MEETING.

The Valatie Free Library Association was founded in 1931 and chartered by the State Board of Regents in 1948.
Voting membership in the Association is open at no cost to anyone over the age of 16. All members in good standing are eligible to participate in Association meetings.
Subject to the regulations of the State Education Department, the affairs of the library are managed by a Board of Trustees. The Board comprises eight members, each elected for a four-year term. The library is also a member of the Mid-Hudson Library System.
The library currently has three paid staff members, the Library Director, a per diem Library Assistant and a per diem Staff Librarian.
Contributions to the library are exempt from federal taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
